If you want, but you don't know

If you want to see the progress of dd, then you can (from another window or terminal) send it a SIGUSR1.

If you don't know how to do this, look at the ps(1) and kill(1) man pages.

If you don't know what a man page is, you probably shouldn't be doing this ...
